Barcelona Guide

For the 2200 years of its history Barcelona has been a very important cultural, political and industrial center of Spain. Today the city preserves all the wealth of its heritage being at the same time a top-modern vibrant megapolis with countless attractions that entice millions of tourists to explore its sights. If you travel Spain, visiting Barcelona is a must, and once you do, it will never leave you indifferent!

With over 3,000,000 million people coming to Barcelona on business or for fun every year the population triples itself in high season, so it is really advisable that you book a room far in advance. The best time to go to Barcelona is perhaps mid-April to early July and late August to September, when the weather is Spain's second-largest city lovely and tourist numbers are still at reasonable levels. But if you are heading to Catalonia's capital in October, get a huge umbrella and a rain-coat because it's usually real wet here at this time. Winters are cold, but not freezing and won't impede you from getting acquainted with the faces of Barcelona, either.

Stroll the Las Ramblas boulevard through the noisy shops and markets to the rococo-style mansion Palau de la Virreina, consider attending a performance at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, or ascend the Monument to Columbus that stands on the place where Columbus is said to have arrived after the discovery of America, and have a look at the famous Royal Shipyards.

If you'd like a piece of history as you travel Spain, come to the Barri Gothic area with Barcelona's collection of medieval buildings including the magnificent Catedral and winding streets, or go to the square of Sant Jaume that houses the city administration hall and the Generalidad. Art lovers are not to miss the mansion on the Carrer de Montcada housing Picasso Museo, where every floor represents works of different periods.

Home city of Antonio Gaudi, Barcelona boasts a number of genius' works including the breath-taking Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera and Park Guell. Describing these freaky architectural masterpieces would lack epithets as they are absolutely unique and gorgeous, but even if you travel Spain transiently, do come and check them out! Another original art work is the colorful sculpture of the Woman and Bird (Dona i Ocell), but it is very likely that you will see some other image on looking at it....

The high hills of Montjuic saw the 1992 games held at the great Olympic Ring which is now a most important part of the Olympic Tour Program in Barcelona...

There is much more to tell about Barcelona, but it's always better to see it all with your own eyes.
