Things to Know
Tourists who travel
Spain will find a number of accommodation possibilities to
every taste and budget.
Three main types of establishments include hoteles, pensiones and
hostales. Depending on location and the services provided these can be
as cheap as 15 Euro per night and as expensive as 1000 Euro or more.
Whether you travel Spain alone or with your family, plan to stay for
long or need some two-day lodging while on business trip, decide, what
level of comfort you wish to receive.
Pensiones are the cheapest option, and accordingly they lack some of
the common facilities such as air-conditioners, towels and hair-dryers
or even bathrooms themselves. It is unlikely that the staff will accept
a credit card and communicate in English with you. However, pensiones
can be located in fashionable city districts next to luxurious hotels
so being a safe place to stay at. No air-conditioning can be slightly
annoying during summer months when the weather in Spain
is hot, but in general these are decent conditions for extremely low
prices which is great for budget travelers and students.
Another type of accommodation mostly occupied by the youth is hostales,
or hostels. As with the pensiones, hostales are often family
businesses, but as against the above mentioned ones are better equipped
and on the whole of higher quality. Though you still should not expect
a pool or a gym in your hostel, be sure that the rooms will be clean
and nice, your English will be understood and the rates will be lower
than in hotels.
When staying in a pension or a hotel as you travel Spain don't be
surprised to find the entrance door locked at night, so either be home
early or give notice to the receptionist you are going to be out for
long. It is also advised to leave the key room with the desk clerk:
first of all, you won't lose it while busy sightseeing, and second,
you'll find your bed made up as you come back.
If you are seeking for more comfort, then hoteles would be right choice
for you. With prices ranging from 30 to 900... Euro hotels of
Spain
can be very modern and feature nearly any amenity you may think of. A
special atmosphere of paradores, that is, mansions and castles
transformed into hotels, will add good impressions to your journey.
Unlike with pensiones and hostales you should take care of booking a
room in advance as high season (summer and early autumn) sees hotels
overcrowded. Moreover, check if there is any festivity, national or
local, at the time of your arrival, as you don't want to roam around
the city after a tiresome flight in search of a place to spend a night
at. If your destination point is Barcelona or Madrid reservation is
absolutely necessary. Usually you will also have to pay some extra to
leave your car at a parking lot.
